Dr. Ramos...

I must admit, the UD doctoral robes are much spiffier looking, than our CEU robes were...::envy:: However, she had to give them back at the end of the ceremony, just like I had to, so there's justice...
Ladies and gentlemen, it is official: she got the blue folder Sunday May 14, 2006. AWESOME!
She's currently vacationing in Scotland with her hubby on a well deserved two-week absence. Wish her sunshine!

Kalamazoo 2006

My two latest victims, Sean and Keith, in animated conversation after their session: this gave me the idea to propose for a roundtable discussion for the 2007 Congress. ::Sigh:: We realized with The Husband on our way back that we are bad influence on budding scholars: our friend Grzegorz back at the CEU was a perfectly respectable economic historian until we convinced him to study 14-15 c. medieval fighting manuals and their context...and now Keith, the perfectly respectable Middle Germanist, is completely drawn into the same group of manuscripts. Ha. We are the Dark Side...and, by their own confession, they enjoy it. Sean does not count, he fenced WAY before this medieval nonsense ever came up, but we like him nevertheless (even though he missed our Thursday dinner, for which he can be sorry for ever and ever, given the wonderful and huge portions of protein and assorted other substances we had at The Roadhouse (the boys say the beer was rather acceptable, too...)

Our audience during Keith's presentation: my co-organizer, Amy, is in the first row in the blue shirt and vest, fiercely taking notes. On the left, The Husband in deep thoughts, behind him, Evil Bob concentrating. Sean is probably thinking about his own presentation back and right in the blue shirt.

Kalamazoo 2006

Yes, The Husband was yet again brutally beatenup by Evil Bob, my favorite scholar of medieval fighting manuals. What's new? They had to rehearse a bit before the presentation, just so that his reflexes from savate don't kick in and he does not flip Bob on the ground when he's supposed to be the victorious and invincible maestro...

Back from the Trip

Tooo busy, back from trip, working like a mad dog to catch up. Somehow, when I am on vacation everything seems to be put on hold, with the magic 'let's just wait until she returns and then she will have eaxtly five minutes to achieve what should have been done a week ago...' principle firmly observed. I am sure most of you are familiar with it, Dear Readers.
As soon as BLogger cooperates (currently is does not seems to be, most annoyingly) I shall upload some pictures I took.

Oh and while I am at it: Congratulations to The Lizard Queen upon her academic achievement and joining the club of PhDers... Woo-Hoo! Go over to her blog and say hello!

Off to the'Zoo

Well, The Husband and I will be off to the Kalamazoo Medieval Congress this afternoon, so blogging probably will be nonexistent, unless I can log in via wireless from one of the hotels along the road or from the WMU campus. We are looking forward to this roadtrip... Hopefully we will not encounter too much road construction this time: to that end, we plan to avoid Chicago altogether and go the Oklahoma-St. Louis-Indianapolis-due north route that was recommended by someone who does this on a regular basis.

Thank you for The Lizard Queen and her hubby who are supplying the technology part of our trip (cell phone and wireless card), and who will be making sure our kitties do not die of boredom or starvation. Yay for friends!
