Weekend...

Well, Babylon 5 Season 5 came out last week, (yayness!)so me and the Lizard Queen went over to Fry's on Friday afternoon and got it (spicing up the experience with two smoothies from Fry's cafe ...they are HUGE!)...I had to go to bed after the first 2 discs (8 episodes) at 0200 AM, but my husband and said Lizard Queen kept going (after her husband went to bed too) until 0430 or so...
'S okay, I will watch the rest of it after they left for their savate practice. Ha! I am SO looking forward to it: I could only see selected episodes in Hungary back when...so I pounced upon the DVDs when they were available here.
Ah. Also in the news: I am officially in A Writing Plan. One hour a day, no matter what (can be more if needed, but never less). Recipe thankfully taken from my husband's twin and his sweetie...I shall give it a try. Need...to...engage..brain...

Whee! Good Book.

Almost finished with Allen Steele's Coyote. Good stuff. Makes tiny Bunny-braincells connect and sizzle. Hard sci-fi somewhat related to Heinlein, with libertarian overtones.
Heh. Overtones....The book opens with a vision of the US as a fascist-totalitarian regime in the 2060s, and continues with the premise of the first interstellar spaceship's crew stealing the ship so they can take a bunch of 'dissident intellectuals' i.e. ex-NASA scientists, engineers etc. to Ursa Majoris's moon, Coyote, where they might establish a sustainable and free-of-tyranny colony--provided they come out their cryosleep alive. Provided they get away with the plan first, of course. First part is the story of the escape, written in present tense to increase suspense...then comes the rest of it, which I will not discuss in case anyone wants to read this one.
In other news: bad weather hopefully ends today and sun and warmth returns to the metroplex. I need my sunshine. I was SO depressed over the weekend even Easter could not cheer me up. No sunlight, you see. it supposed to be bright and beautiful on Easter Sunday, right?

Polidori Came and Went

It was fun! Thanks for all who were here & hopefully those who had to leave early recovered from their allergies and assorted ailings. It was one of the best ones I had the honor to attend and co-host: I sure hope those who came felt the same way.
For the un-initiated who may read my blog: Polidori is the semi-annual readings-party I got hooked into as the wife of Boxing Alcibiades who was among the people who started it way back in their University of Dallas years. It basically works like this: you show up; you bring booze and food; you bring a story (be it, as the invitation says, poem, prose or dithyramb); drink, eat, and read aloud, passing the Chair of Reading to each other. There are two in a year, the Fall one is, naturally, on All Saints Eve (with a theme to match that night when the barriers between the worlds are more open than usual); the other, in the Spring, has a theme changed every year. This time it was Love and Mystery...and boy howdy, there were some delicious submissions!
