New Blog!

Yes, my gentle readers--The Bunny's husband finally yielded to The Dark Side (tm)...:-) Although this mine blog featured a link to his'blog' in the right hand column, that was mostly an informational ad-hoc site created largely for the sake of one specific event, and totally devoid of any personal, more blog-y information. I updated tha link today, because as of yesterday The Boxing Alcibiades blog is ON!
Warning: he has some rather strong views and opinions, so caveat emptor. Me, for one, am mightily amused when reading--and he has got many nifty links too! Enjoy, here.

Update On Foundation Repair and Like Matters

Well. Foundation work is done.
Foundation work is messy.
Foundation workers work HARD and clean up after themselves rather well.
However: lessee...
We have 4 holes in our house. Two in the living room, where the sofa used to be (said sofa being now in the middle of the living room in two pieces). Two in our bedroom where my white wicker-armoire and the faux Japanese screen hiding the wicker hamper resides normally. All four are covered in with cement--and tiny kitty pawprints, because NONE of our cats learned to walk around those sticky ovals on the floor. No matter, as Rufel keeps telling me, 'These shall be covered soon." As soon as they harden, that is. Until then, the carpet is pulled back in said places, plus all the way down on the corridor. Most of the furniture was moved around in these two rooms, plus the 'armoury' which is the 2nd/guest bedroom, is currently a storage room for All That Stuff that Had To Be Moved From Somewhere And Then Some...
On the plus side, we now can close the doors, the walls are straight, the cracks on the walls start to close up on their own...and soon, very soon, Rufel's wonderful brother-in-law can start working on our next big projects: The Replacement of Those Sorry Windows and the Out With That Carpet Monster! Whee!
Oh: the cats were all accounted for at the end of the day.

And a big hug for my husband, who made this all possible and stayed home and smiled all the way through, and ONLY at the VERY end, when Steve, the Olshan foreman and his crew departed did he say: 'I REALLY need to get out, and NOW."
THANKS, honey...for this, and much more. :-)

Sick again...

In case my gentle readers (all 3) are interested in my health status: am sick again...This winter has not been good for me at all--the sun is scarcely out (and when it is, I am usually sitting at my desk in the middle of a windowless office floor) and I am getting all kinds of bugs. This one here manifests inself in the form of a narsty headcold with all the symptoms it entails: the runny nose, the scratchy throat, the stuffed-up feeling in one's sinuses...
Meanwhile, we are having our foundation repaired on the house. We knew well that sooner or later it will happen when we bought our home in late 2002--well, the time came. Irving TX is notoriously bad for foundations and although there was nothing life threatening, the work needed to be done. It comes with a lifetime, transferable warranty--whee!
According to The Bunny's husband who stayed home for today to superwise the workers, the house is covered in plastic and masking tape, the carpet is pulled up in the living room and in the armory, and the cats are hiding so well that even he does not know where they are. And boy, is said husband restless. He's confined to the house, cannot do anything remotely meditative because of the jackhammers hammering away, cannot get to his 'toys' as they are all covered in plastic and tape...He stole me away for a brief lunch from work, however, and that was nice.

I wonder how it all will look like when I finally get home at the end of the day. Hmmm...

What's Up with the Sizes?

I just noticed it today...there were at least 3 women either on location, or in our organization but other location, who went up at least 2 dress sizes since they came to us. What's up with the Texas size portions and stuff, I wonder? I was shocked, I have to admit, when first I beheld the portion sizes at restaurants and soda fountains here. I mean, in Europe it's not customary to have free drink refills anywhere, either, so even that came as a slight surprise. But there is a noticeable difference indeed between, say, a Maryland portion and a Texas portion, too. I chose not to partake in the soft drink craziness here, don't put sugar in my coffee/tea, and have a relatively good-burning body chemistry, but this just hit me, seeing one of the ladies coming here from Memphis about a year ago, plumping about...Geez.
Not that I am not guilty of other vices...We'd been to the Ft. Worth Zoo last Sunday, and purchased a load of homemade fudge from their fudge shop, and oh, my, it is good. Granted, we are eating it for 5 days now, the 4 of us, and we still have half of it. Mmm...fudge...

In other news, I added the 'Comics I Read' section on the right hand side. Spacing is odd, but alas, I have no time to fiddle with the HTML now. Thanks for those who introduced me to those wonderful webcomics...the latest addition to my collection is Narbonic, the web comic about a mad scientist, her assistant, mutant gerbils, and more...

New Year...

I hope all of my friends and aquaintances had a great New Years Eve.

Me? I mostly fell asleep on the couch after an excellent sushi dinner and some driving around one-on-one with my husband....Woke up on the couch at midnight, mumbled ''ppy new year, dearest...' and went back to sleep. :-) It was great...

In other news: my friend and roomie Rufel posted a link to the gool ol' Myers-Briggs test, so after many years, I took it again. I hope no one is really surprised that The Bunny is:

ISFJ - "Conservator". Desires to be of service and to minister to individual needs - very loyal. 13.8% of total population
